This piece will remain on display throughout the month of June in a prominent place on the second floor of the Gaudí Palace.

The history of this remarkable earthenware factory began in 1806 when the Marquis of Sargadelos, Antonio Raimundo Ibáñez, inaugurated it in Cervo (Lugo), to develop his refined taste for the plastic arts, taking advantage of the kaolin deposits in the area. The innovative factory introduced in Spain forms and decorations typical of the famous English earthenware, especially that produced in Bristol. It gained prestige due to the abundance of raw material and the proximity of the sea for the transportation of the pieces.

After a trajectory of several production stages, with crises and revivals, it closed in 1875, after producing some excellent series of tableware, toiletries, lamps and vases.

Predominating the neoclassical style, white color, glossy enamel and creamy finish prevail. The fourth stage (1870-1875), to which this piece belongs, was characterized by continuity in production, without foreign ceramists in the direction. This bath pitcher features a classic design with circular handle and duckbill, fine earthenware, lithographically stamped and with a bucolic seascape or lakescape with palatial buildings and floral decorations. The Sargadelos crown seal is stamped on the bottom of the base or foot.

The dining room of the Palace, located on the main floor of the building, houses and exhibits a splendid collection of antique earthenware, where some of the most important Spanish and even European factories that produced service and ornamental earthenware from the mid-19th century to the present day are represented.

The Gaudí Palace can be visited from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00 hours and in the afternoons from 16:00 to 20:00 hours.

The Museum of the Ways of Gaudí Palace presents as ‘Piece of the Month’ a ceramic bath jug made by the Royal Factory of Sargadelos (Lugo) in the last third of the 19th century.
