The host or pyx was used to guard and reserve the Consecrated Eucharist for worship and to bring communion to the sick and handicapped.

This remarkable specimen from Zamora has a very well developed cylindrical body decorated with smooth interlaced stripes and thin stems. The upper rim has a fine bead of small balls and the lower rim is completely smooth.

The base, with two staggered bodies, resolves the first with a cruciform fretwork and the second with a smooth concave molding. The conical conical lid with a convex profile decorated with geometric forms, starts with a cresting ornamentation of cardinals and is finished with a smooth ball on which stands the Crucifix, with trilobed ends. From a symbolic point of view, the Crucifix reinforces the sense of sacrifice of the Eucharist.

The Gaudí Palace is open from Monday to Sunday from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm and in the afternoons from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm. The piece is on display on the second floor of the Palace and will be moved at the end of the month where it will remain on display until the end of the year, with the rest of the outstanding works.

The Museum of the Ways of Gaudí Palace presents a hostarium from Olmillos de Valverde as the ‘Piece of the Month’ for January 2025.

[173
176,177
post-9041","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-museum-of-the-roads","tag-piece-of-the-month
["GET
