It will be on display throughout the month in a prominent place on the second floor of the Gaudí Palace.

The process of Eucharistic affirmation of the sixteenth century, which continued in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, also resulted in novelties in the furnishings of the temples. One of them is the realization of tabernacles, giving them an unprecedented functional and artistic relevance.

The door of the tabernacle of Santiago Millas (León) is a simple example of the desire to dignify the liturgical furnishings in a small rural parish like the Maragata.

Made in relief and with limited technical skill, it nevertheless has the value of its popular character. It represents the scene of the Last Supper, during which Christ instituted the Eucharist. It takes place inside the cenacle with Jesus in the center of the table, nimbus and the apostles surrounding him. Above them a semicircular arch on columns, a pompous curtain knotted to the flanks and a large lamp hanging over the tabletop. The background, completely neutral and decorated with fine gold leaf, prevents any hint of perspective.

At the end of the month the piece will move, but will remain, along with those of previous months, until the end of the year. The Gaudí Palace begins November with winter opening hours and can be visited from Monday to Sunday from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm and in the afternoons from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm.

The Museum of the Ways of the Gaudí Palace opens in November with an 18th century tabernacle door from Santiago Millas.

[173
176,177
post-9100","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-museum-of-the-roads","tag-piece-of-the-month
["GET
