“La danza de Salomé”, by Demetrio Monteserín, October’s ‘Piece of the Month’.

Demetrio Monteserín and his oil painting “The Dance of Salomé” are the protagonists of the month of October in the Museum of the Ways of the Palace of Gaudí. On this occasion the featured ‘Piece of the Month’ is a painting by the Leonese artist. It will be on display throughout the month in a prominent place on the second floor of the Gaudí Palace.

Demetrio Monteserín studied Fine Arts in Madrid and developed, as an excellent draftsman, illustration, decorative painting, landscape, portrait, genre painting and finally, an intense teaching work, leaving a mark of his pedagogy in some of the most outstanding Leonese painters of the twentieth century.

A traveling artist, with an impressionist soul and always involved in the modernist artistic sphere, in this work, singular for its subject matter in his production, he demonstrates his ability to show a showy scenography with a theme, “The Dance of Salome”, which constitutes one of the Gospel stories with more dramatic and novel elements, mixing luxury, dance, seduction and death. Thus, he presents the scene with Salome dancing for Herod, who watches from the tribune, surrounded by his entourage, in an atmosphere of luxurious theatricality. The showy opulence that Monteserín shows will be a sign of identity in many of his works that represent environments that he knew in his captivating trips to Paris or Nice, which marked him so much.

The Gaudí Palace can be visited from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00 hours and in the afternoons from 16:00 to 20:00 hours.
