Basement
Epigraphic and lapidary museum
The Lapidary Museum was founded in 1912, in the basement of the Palace. It was a novel initiative that came from Bishop Grau’s idea of founding a Diocesan Museum. The architecture of the basement recalls the models of Roman architecture, with the use of stone and brick, in a very elementary way. Of all the pieces that can be admired in this room, the Roman Miliario stands out, a granite milestone that was placed at the edge of the roads to mark the distances on the roads.
It is also worth stopping in front of the Stele dedicated to the Capitoline Triad and the medieval tombs.
