“Reposo”, by Marino Amaya, October’s ‘Piece of the Month’.

Marino Amaya and his sculpture “Reposo” are the protagonists of the month of October at the Museum of the Pathways of the Gaudí Palace. On this occasion, the October ‘Piece of the Month’ is a bronze sculpture by the artist from Astorga. It will be on display throughout the month in a prominent place on the second floor of the Gaudí Palace.

Marino Amaya, an artist from Astorga with an eclectic formation in Spain (in his youth he was a shepherd, carpenter and weaver. He was trained in Salamanca and Madrid although he traveled the world to soak up the aesthetics and knowledge of other places) and with an artistic career heavily influenced by his travels throughout Europe, Egypt and Palestine, is one of the leading exponents of contemporary sculpture astorgana.

His works are present throughout Spain (Astorga, León, Madrid, Málaga, Salamanca, etc.) and in collections as important as the Vatican or the Rockefeller Foundation (USA).

With “Reposo”, a bronze sculpture, he reconverted his academicist style to become more schematic and personal, without abandoning figuration. A synthetic and simple work, it is a good example of his most avant-garde and interesting production.

At the end of the month the piece will move, but will remain, along with those of previous months, until the end of the year. The Gaudí Palace can be visited from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00 hours and in the afternoons from 16:00 to 20:00 hours.
