From December 29 to 31, Gaudí’s Palace displays a symbolic yellow arrow on a blue background on one of its facades, indicating the centuries-old pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. The monument was illuminated as part of the project ‘Ilumina el Camino’ of the Junta de Castilla y León and with the collaboration of the City Council of Astorga.
This illumination of the monuments, which began last December 22 in Burgos, evokes the route taken by pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago, culminating in the cathedral of Santiago, with the illumination of the Clock Tower. This project is part of the promotion of the Jacobean Holy Year 2021. The objective is to highlight the Camino and the Jacobean culture with the illumination of unique monuments of this route.

Illuminate the Way’ consists of the artistic illumination of unique monuments of the French Way of St. James, in each of the communities involved in the project (Aragon, Asturias, Castile and Leon, Galicia and Navarra). Each day different monuments are illuminated sequentially, following the different routes, approaching Santiago de Compostela in several stages, in the days leading up to December 31, the date of the opening of the Holy Door that starts the events of the Compostela Holy Year.
