Discovering Gaudí’s architectural treasure in Astorga

Coinciding with the 110th anniversary of the end of the works of Gaudí’s Palace (October 12, 1913), the most extensive and complete research work that has been dedicated to date to the majestic Episcopal Palace of Astorga, a unique jewel in the work of Antoni Gaudí and one of the three buildings designed by the Catalan genius outside his homeland, will be unveiled.

The book “Palacio Gaudí Astorga”, the result of years of research and dedication, represents a historical landmark in itself. Among its pages are unpublished documents and an in-depth study of the context, history and construction of the building. “This presentation marks a before and after in the history of the Palace and we have been working on it for many years. The coming to light of the work par excellence in which everything we know about the Palace from its origins to the present day is collected. It is a necessary document, the reference book, for the study and understanding of Gaudí’s Palace in Astorga”, says the director of the monument Víctor Murias.

After the musealization of the different floors and rooms of the building, this book completes the project. “The palace lacked a documentary base. It will be a reference for future research, and a great deal of information that people are unaware of is made known,” Murias adds.

The presentation will take place next Thursday, October 12 at the Diocesan Theater at 7:00 pm. The author of the book, Jairo Álvarez Fernández, will be accompanied by the director of the Palace, Víctor Manuel Murias Borrajo, as well as the Bishop of the Diocese of Astorga, D. Jesús Fernández González.

The event, with free admission, will be open to anyone who wishes to attend the book presentation and, for this reason, the Gaudí Palace will open its doors from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 12. We ask our visitors to excuse the inconvenience.
