The Gaudí Palace in Astorga will host, from March 23 to 26, the concert series “The sound of architecture”, a musical proposal organized by the Professional Conservatory of Music “Angel Barja” of Astorga within its Cultural Week. The initiative will bring together students and teachers of the center on the first floor of the Palace, who will offer various recitals and concerts in a dialogue between music and architecture.
During four consecutive evenings, the public will be able to enjoy a varied program performed by different groups and specialties of the conservatory: from the elementary orchestra to chamber music ensembles, piano, guitar, tuba and singing recitals, as well as performances by teachers and students of the center. “We have made a selection of composers contemporary to Gaudí and this cycle is within the Cultural Week of the Conservatory. We also have an exhibition in the center’s hall that establishes links between Gaudí’s architecture and music. The architect designed his buildings thinking about the acoustics they were going to have and how each space could resonate, a fact that we did not know and that seems relevant and very interesting,” said Friday the director of the center, Raquel Sutil.

The series will begin on March 23 with a concert by the elementary school orchestra, followed by a recital performed by teachers from the conservatory. Before the start, a clarinet concert will be held at the Teatro Gullón by the CreSi (Creando Sinergia) project, in which works from Gaudí’s time will be performed.
The following days will feature piano and choir recitals, a guitar concert accompanied by live painting, chamber music performances and recitals by different instrumental and vocal specialties. The program will culminate on March 26 with a piano and cello duo concert and a zarzuela recital performed by singing students.
This collaboration between the Gaudí Palace and the Angel Barja Conservatory is also part of the cultural program with which the monument commemorates the centenary of the death of Antonio Gaudí, reinforcing the link between heritage, education and artistic creation.
On the occasion of this initiative and in recognition of its involvement in the cultural programming of the Palace during this commemorative year, the Professional Conservatory of Music Angel Barja of Astorga received this Friday the title of Ambassador of the Palace, which was collected by its director Raquel Sutil. This recognition acknowledges the contribution of the Conservatory, which helps to disseminate and enrich the cultural life of the monument. “I want to thank the Conservatory for its contribution to this commemoration and I think the experience of live music is important. This is not a closed-door concert, but in addition to the invitations for students, faculty and family members, people who visit the monument on those days will be able to enjoy live music. In addition to the Ambassadors who will be able to access the Gaudí Palace with their cards. It is an original way of integrating architecture and music,” said the director of the building, Victor Murias.
With this cycle, the Gaudí Palace continues to consolidate itself as a space open to music and culture, where architecture and art dialogue to offer new experiences to the public.
