Light and music at the Gaudí Palace

Palacio de Gaudi

The Banda de Enseñanzas Profesionales del Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Astorga will premiere this Friday, May 15, from 22:00 hours, in the Plaza Eduardo de Castro, the symphonic work for band El Arquitecto de Dios, an original composition by David Rivas from Toresa inspired by the figure, spirituality and artistic legacy of Antonio Gaudí, with special attention to his intense creative period in León.

The premiere will take place in a particularly symbolic setting, coinciding with the inauguration of the new night lighting of the Gaudí Palace, one of the most emblematic buildings of the architect and a heritage and cultural reference of the city of Astorga.

The work proposes a sonorous journey through Gaudí’s personality, exploring the duality between the man, the mystic and the creator. Structured in four programmatic blocks, the composition invites the public to enter the emotional, spiritual and artistic universe of the architect through a contemporary and evocative musical language.

The first movement, Gaudí and Faith, reflects the architect’s deep spirituality and his conception of architecture as a form of prayer. Through solemn harmonies and an atmosphere of recollection, the music conveys the idea that each of Gaudí’s creations was born of a firm and transforming faith.

In Untamed Nature, the score delves into the architect’s fascination with organic forms and the elements of nature. The music here takes on a vibrant and dynamic character, evoking trees, caves and living structures that inspired many of his most recognizable works.

The third block, Discrepancies, places the listener in the context of the construction of the Casa Botines and the Episcopal Palace of Astorga. The movement reflects, through musical contrasts and tensions, the confrontation between Gaudí’s innovative vision and the conservatism of the time, portraying the difficulties and incomprehension that the architect had to face.

Finally, The Genius of Gaudí culminates the work with a grand sonic apotheosis that celebrates the universal transcendence of his legacy. The music expands into an almost mystical dimension, symbolizing how the architect’s work has managed to endure beyond time as a bridge between the human and the divine.

The concert will be open to the public and we invite you to discover a night of light and music this Friday at 10 p.m. in the Eduardo de Castro square.
