The Gaudí Palace presents two new educational elements

The Gaudí Palace in Astorga, with the aim of showing young people one of the three monuments of the modernist architect outside Catalonia, has prepared a project of educational visits aimed at students of kindergarten, primary and secondary school. In addition, as a didactic element, a model representing the monumental axis of Astorga has been recovered. The work of Alejandro Luengo will serve as a permanent educational element for both schoolchildren and visitors on the second floor of the Museum of the Roads. Coinciding with the anniversary of the completion of the works of Gaudí’s Palace on October 12, 1913, this new format has been presented for students and family visits.

This Thursday, the 6th grade students of the Ángel González Álvarez de Astorga primary school, patron school of the Palace, were the first to inaugurate this educational project. For this purpose, a space on the second floor of Antonio Gaudí’s monument has been fitted out as a didactic classroom with furniture adapted to the needs of the students. This didactic space can accommodate a group of up to 25 children.

Through this initiative, the students of González Álvarez were able to know the monument of Astorga and the Museum of the Roads that houses inside. Two guides of the Palace received the students this Thursday to explain the history of the building and the relationship of Antonio Gaudí with Astorga. The educational department also prepared a series of activities with materials designed specifically for primary school students. Schools interested in carrying out any of these experiences can contact via telephone 987616882 or email visitas@palaciodegaudi.es.

The director of the Palace, Víctor Murias, explains the restored model.

Once the temporary exhibition ‘INRI’ on the second floor of the Gaudí Palace has been completed, a didactic element has been restored and recovered and will be on display for all visitors to the monument. A model of the monumental axis of Astorga made between 1985 and 1995 by Alejandro Luengo, which was partially removed from the deposit of the Museum of Roads. It is a new thematic and didactic element that will support learning about the Palace for both schoolchildren and visitors.

The model, made of wood, shows the surroundings of Gaudí’s Palace, as well as the Cathedral of Astorga and other architectural elements that are part of the monumental axis. This model will be exhibited on the second floor of the Palace and accompanied by information panels that talk about the latest works carried out in the monument designed by Antonio Gaudí.
