The Gaudí Palace of Astorga has awarded this Wednesday to the City Council of Astorga the institutional title of “Ambassador of the Palace”, in an act of recognition for its outstanding support and collaboration in the commemoration of the Gaudí Year 2026, which marks the centenary of the death of the brilliant architect Antoni Gaudí.
This appointment is part of the “Ambassadors of the Palace” program, an initiative promoted by the Gaudí Palace with the aim of strengthening the links between the monument, local institutions and civil society, and thus actively involve the community in the celebration of one of the most important cultural milestones of the year. During the ceremony, the director of the Palace presented a framed diploma symbolizing the anniversary and the strategic alliance between the two institutions.
During the official ceremony, held in the auditorium of the municipal council, the director of the Palace, Victor Murias, stressed the importance of the support of the City of Astorga and the various departments that work with the monument to carry out activities and schedule cultural events that will take place throughout the year 2026. “The City Council of Astorga has to be the first recognition, thanking his involvement and availability to develop all the events that we are going to do this year. It has always been willing and helping in everything”. He also pointed out that the Ambassadors program is still open to institutions, companies and associations that wish to collaborate in this Gaudí Year.

For his part, Councilman José Luis Nieto pointed out the importance of Gaudí’s monument for the city of Astorga. “I want to thank the Palace for this first appointment of Ambassadors, it is a unique event and as a City Council we have the obligation to collaborate and to make the Palace known as much as possible.”
The Gaudí Palace of Astorga thanked the City Council of Astorga for its involvement, both in planning the calendar of activities scheduled for 2026 and in mobilizing resources and support to reach a wide and diverse audience, with initiatives designed for all citizens.
This institutional recognition is also a significant boost for the projection of the cultural and heritage program that will accompany the commemorations throughout the year, and reinforces the collaboration between public administrations and local agents around the rich historical and artistic legacy that Astorga treasures.
Palace Ambassadors
The “Ambassadors of the Palace” program recognizes entities, institutions and companies that share a commitment to culture, heritage and the projection of Astorga as a reference point for the Gaudí legacy. This is an open line of collaboration that includes different modalities -from sponsorship agreements and financing of activities to joint promotion and dissemination actions- and also offers tax benefits linked to the fact that Gaudí Year has been declared an Event of Special Public Interest.
In addition to the institutions, the program was open to individuals registered in Astorga and the surrounding area who will carry their Palace Ambassadors card for the next few years. In total, 133 people are joining in the commemoration of Gaudí Year 2026.
